Policies, judgment, knowledge, and character are some measures of a candidate's experience. Some are unable to learn from experience or adequately use what they do learn. Experience doesn’t count in a candidate but how does that experience make a candidate better for the job of president.
Take character: character includes ethics, morals, temperament, and honor among other characteristics built on life’s experience. Good character is an important Presidential quality. Experience has shown that a winning campaign strategy is to ignore the issues and do a “smear, fear, and lies” attack on your opponent’s character; a strategy without ethics & honor usually used by internet bloggers, 527s, and radio/TV talk show hosts. Calling Obama a Muslim terrorist and the Messiah are smears, incite fear, and are lies. Implying that McCain fathered a black child out of wedlock is a smear and a lie. These attacks didn’t have a candidate’s approval. However, McCain’s approved an ad that Obama backed legislation to teach sex education to kindergarteners with an implication that is a personal attack on Obama’s character. Obama did support a sex education bill, Illinois S.B. 093_0099, for grades K through 12. This bill allowed parents to opt out of any instruction, repeatedly stressed abstinence, taught communication skills to avoid unwanted sexual activity, provided guidance for prevention of sexual abuse and HIV, and said “All course material and instruction in classes that teach sex education and discuss sexual activity or behavior shall be age and developmentally appropriate”. Kindergarteners would be given guidance to avoid sexual predators but not how to have sex. The questions that should be asked is why wouldn’t McCain support legislation like this and why would he approve a smear that misleads people to question Obama’s character in such a perverted way? This ad is an indictment of McCain’s own character. |
